BrainBench is a company who´s business model involves certification only. They do not sell on-site training or similar services. What they sell is certification exams for personal or pre-employment in the form of subscriptions. (Well, they do sell single Exams, but prices are ridiculous)
They have two different certifications to offer: an exam-certification (which is you take en exam and get certified on reasonable results) and a so-called job-role certification. The job-role cert should show you fitness to fulfill a particular job and is granted, if you received a number of exam-certs from the related fields.
Even though the exams happen online and are generally not that hard to clear, they reasonably hard to master (by scoring very high). They demonstrate at least a basic understanding of the subject, but cannot be compared with a sun certification (or equivalent).
I used these exams primarily in order to measure my fitness for the sun exams, or just for fun.

My current certifications are:

Job-Roles

Exams

Java/Architecture/OOA/OOD

Other Technical

Personal/Interpersonal/Misc

Even more details can be found on my

BrainBench transcript.

I won $200 worth free services as benchgames leader in "JSP 1.1" during BenchGames 2006.
